Demo... trouble using layers in 2D

I read the tutorials on Layers and I am still having trouble getting my drawing from the current layer copied to a new layer. I am just doing a line drawing and then I edit it for different cutting operations. For example I will cut out the center section then add clamps and want to profile the outside section. I do this in master cam. I usually just go to town drawing all I need then copy it to different levels and edit it to make my tool paths. If I select my drawing and then click on a new layer I get a new screen. If I then copy and paste or move I get the drawing to appear, but then when I close the little eye on level one I can't find any of my info I just copied. I know this is a lousy description, but can anyone help my dumb self. Thanks

Draw what you need..

Then "select" it,( by select all, select by layer,select by color, select by region, or any other way)

Then "copy, translate", and tick the "copy" box and the "add to new layer" box...select or define a new layer...then "incremental"..Use X0,Y0,Z0...

Then it will make a copy of your selected stuff to that new layer and you can blank or unblank the original or the new layer..

Thanks! that did it!!! I guess I didn't get to the incremental part. Now my new layer with info is correctly opened. Thanks for the speedy reply.
