Just got my copy of OneCNC XP MILL EXPERT today.
WOW!!
I know OneCNC MILL PRO is great (I use it almost everyday)but wait til you see what they came up with this time.
This BLOWS me away.
REALLY neat stuff:
Rest machining.
Fully customizable tool bars.
Parting line stuff (for you mold guys).
Really Customizable machine posts.
Personal setting for muliple users.
HUGE help file with real stuff in it.
Job sheets with run time, operations,Date codes, a small rendering of the part, right on the sheet (for us folks who need pictures).
You can reorder the operations with full associativity.
WOW, this will take my machining to a new(higher) level.
I"ll keep you posted as I wrap my feeble little mind around all this.

Drool! Now, how am I supposed to work for the rest of today, WMS!
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

WMS,
What is the cost for eXPert?
Mark
Mark,
I really don't know what the price is for XP is at this time.
I'm sure there will be an upgade price also.
I would suggest you give OneCNC a call to find out all the details. They are really good folks to talk to.
HU, (what more can I say)

Guys,
I'm still getting my feet wet with this new version.
Unfortunately I was given a bid package with 58 different parts(all complex solid models from UG 18), to try and get together last week(I hate bids but that's are how we all make the rent).
So I haven't had much time to play around with the new XP.
It looks very interesting and lots of new stuff.
The interface is a little different, but nothing overwelming.
The Rest Robot has peaked my interest.
I'll try to keep you up to date as things go forward.

Hi WMS, and other interested persons,
I was studying the new "layer controls" in OnecncXP. Looks exactly like what I was dreaming about: now all I have to do is come up with what would make a good "default layers and layer attributes" template. I'm like a kid at Christmas time: too many toys and I can't concentrate on any one of them
Have you concocted any such layering scheme yet? I'd like to hear a few ideas kicked around by people who are more experienced at using this type of feature.

HU,
I use things like:
POINTS= YELLOW (chose your own colors here)
CONSTRUCTION= (color)
SURFACES= (color)
HOLES=(you know the drill)
BONDARYS=
DIMENSIONS=
TEXT TO INGRAVE=
STOCK=
and on and on and on.
Really the choises are endless and depend on how you "operate".
Fun stuff and how about the ability to customize the toolbar any way you want to.
If you want 5 copies of SAVE or TRIM 2, you can have them.
Heck put a copy of TRIM 2 on every tool bar.

I also get a kick out of the way the zoom and rotate function works in Onecnc XP. Its nice and handy on the middle mouse button and the "flying camera" feel as the view repositions itself makes me want to pan and zoom more than ever before
I'm glad I upgraded my video card lately so I can run two monitors side by side. What with all the windows a guy wants to have open (for convenience), it is well worth the $$ spent. I've got the NC manager and the NC editor sharing one monitor, and the CAD window on the other.

Your use of two monitors has really tweaked my interest HU, what video card did you settle on? and in the CAD mod what video resolution do you prefer?
Just ordered oneCNCXP and very much looking forward to learning it.
Thanks
Ken
Ken,
Don't give up on Hu, he is on holiday for about two weeks. He may be looking at this while he is gone or he may not, don't know. But I'm sure he will answer you when he get back.

Thanks WMS,
Just received my oneCNCXP today and was looking forward to playing with it this week end but I never got my license key, they said it would be Monday before they got any emails from Australia with them........not exactly life changing but a little annoying as I paid $35 to get it FedEX'd next day. Also received no manuals, from what I understand this version is quite new so that is understandable. I did get a hat !!, a dongle and a CD.
Making any progress on your's? and did you have any experience with the earlier versions of Mill Professional?
Ken

Ken,
Sorry I missed your post on Friday. You must have edited it?
Yes, I have Mill 2000 also, so Xp is an upgrade for me.
Lot's of new stuff in XP. If you need help let us know and we'll help ya.
Do you have solid experience? Not that it is nessasary with OneCNC.
(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)
Quite unfamiliar with this site reply procedures so excuse the possible confusion.
To Paul G:
Hi Paul, actually I am making some progress, I am quite busy during the day and trying to learn at night when you are tired is not the best for producing results, none the less I think I am going to like it. Thanks for asking.
To wms:
You are correct I did edit the message.
I have zero experience with solids but hopefully that will be changing as I learn more. The XP version I received was Mill Professional. I thank you very much for your offer to help and I most likely will take you up on that but I also promise not to burden you with endless "how do I" questions. I have some metal working equipment but my plan is to purchase a CNC mill toward early fall. I have some ideas on specialized parts for some of the more popular firearms, and new ideas for this equipment come to mind all the time.
Great work on the Piston, are you in this field?
Thanks
Ken
Ken,
I build lot's of different items, Snowmobile products, airplane parts, medical stuff, tooling ect.
The piston was something I've been working on for a friend's asphalt racer. Doing some tooling to modify the pistons.
You will like OneCNC, I sure do.
The piston took about 35 - 45 minutes to do, It's not done yet have some cutouts and grooves to do yet.
It's real easy to create solids in OneCNC ond them cut and merge them together to get something usefull.
Jump in and get your feet wet your in good company.
Don't be afraid to ask for help, lot's of good people here.

wms, have you (or others) been experiencing OneCncXp producing errors losing work and necessitating re-starting the program?
If you have any non-proprietary OneCnc files I would love to see what you have been working on. I am not interested on how complex they are just anything you can share. I am not sure if you can share files via CncZone but my email address is kshea@ontargetsportsonline.com
That piston ring groove, is that difficult to create?
Thanks
Ken
Ken,
What video card are you using? There is a post on this forum http://www.cnczone.com/showthread.php?threadid=222&s=
It adresses some of the problems with different cards.
I'll gather up some files and e-mail them to you.
The ring groove is a simple operation. After the piston body was made and saved to it's own layer, I made the groove with the solid maker (cylinder, then second cylinder of smaller size, then used the difference fuction to remove the smaller cylinder, (to leave the ring), then unblank the piston body and used the diference funtion to remove the groove from the body).
It's easer than I made it sound, really!
