    Opinions

    Hi everyone,

We are in the process of updating some of our software and are considering ONEcnc. Our shop does mostly general machining and the occassional die and some fixtures. We have 2 vf3s and an old anilam. I like the advantage's price but we feel we might need to draw in 3D and are considering going woth profressional . Is the professional version worth the extra, is it s good drawing package? Anyone using Advantage? Does it work like the demo? Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

    Charlie,
I have OneCnc Expert and love it. I started off with XP profesional and probably could get by using that. When XR came out I upgraded to Expert. I dont know exactly what you machine but, I would recommend that you get XR Professional so that you can work in solids. I will tell you that 3D machining is OneCnc's strength. All the toolpaths are easy to use and the toolpaths are outstanding. If you want to post a dxf. file or, a STP. or IGES file I would be happy to put some toolpaths on them and post Gcode for your machine so you can see if you get the toolpaths you are looking for....

I use Advantage and love it! I can't comment too much on the CAD side of it for 3d work, because most of my complex files come out of Solidworks. The CAM side however is wonderful.

Here is my review of Express, before I upgraded. http://www.coldfusionracing.com/CNC/Onecnc.htm

There is a big advantage in modeling in the same program that you perform your toolpaths on. Plus OneCNC being a hybrid modeler, which gives you the ability to create not only solids but surfaces as well. This gives you the modeling capabilities that are sometimes hard to create in a solid modeler alone. If you haven't invested time in learning a solid modeler as of yet, than you have nothing to loose learning OneCNC for both its CAM and CAD capabilities.
The Professional is worth the money if you are going to use it for modeling parts in addition to performing toolpaths, otherwise the Advantage will give you the same toolpath functions.
The videos only give you a taste of what the software is capable of. There is no deceiving going on at all in those videos.

    Charlie,
I believe I am correct in stating that many of the XR Expert's additional features and functions were designed for the die and mold makers, it does have both modeling additions and some neat tool path functions over the XR-Pro even for the non-die makers, one is the "custom tool paths", this looks like it could be very useful over time.

If you can bite the financial bullet XR-Pro or Expert would probably be a good choice and I don't think you would ever look back, however you could be very satisfied as is Cold Fusion by simply importing the solids into Advantage.

    Thanks much

Thanks for your replies and feedback. I think we are going to send a file as suggested and do an online demo of both in the next day or two. We weren't considering Expert maybe they can show me some of its functions for what we sent. didn't ask the price of expert so i'm not sure how much more it is and not sure we need it but will ask.

Also can someone please explain to me what a rest robot is!

    thanks again
