Alarm 1049-20-A ALarm need help!

Hello.

My Father called me and asked me if I could come out and fix his Okuma Lathe. Well I am not familiar with the controller since I am a Fanuc guy. He said the alarm is 1049-20-A Alarm and the note listed says somthing like VAC Inverter Bridge short Circuit. Can anyone help with this? Thanks!

generally, if You want help, You'll better specify the object as:
Okuma ACT2SP-3; OSP500L-G

or
Okua LB1000MY; OSP-P200L

it makes much easier.
in this case it's clear, that something with spindle drive unit is wrong. First You check red LED indicators on the drive unit istself and small on-board fuses there. Next - look for faulty IGBT modules (the end transistor blocks) of spindle drive unit. Before You will run it again, check if cable to motor and motor insulation is correct.

How old is your fathers machine?
Some of the earlier machines came with Fanuc spindle drive units on them, so getting them fixed is a job for a Fanuc Man.
Looking in the error manual for OSP5020L / OSP500L-G machines the explanation for a VAC Inverter bridge short circuit alarm (1112 in this book) says the following:
Index: Spindle
Character-String: None
Code: None
Probable Faulty Location: VAC Power Unit
Measures to Take: 1) Set the three-phase breaker of the machine once to OFF position and then set it to the ON position again.
2) Replace the VAC power unit.

Now I would be guessing that he would have already tried cycling the power on the machine in the first instance... so that really only leaves the second option.

Just had a look in a OSP7000L/OSP700L book... sod all information about the alarm in that book!Just tells you the same information as the alarm message states! Greaaat! Love these alarm books at times
It states the probable Faulty Location as being: VAC drive unit or transistor.

So now you know as much as the rest of us! (Sod all)
Time to call the Tech Heads.
Regards
Brian.

Yes, in case if You have a lot of spare money. Replacement of IGBT module is easy. Most likely, there are Mitsubishi or Fuji Electric modules used and no problem to find them in the market. You can repair with $100 spending or less instead of feeding service boys.
I'm service boy, BTW

Replacement of IGBT module is easy
Well riding a bike is easy too... once you have learned how.
Since the majority of "Users" on these machines are NOT electronic service qualified or trained people... I would have to disagree with you as too how "Easy" this task is.
Programming, Setting and Running CNC machines is also very easy, but to a first year apprentice it is not.
Each to their own.

Buy me a Beer?

Replacement of IGBT module is easy

As easy as having the better half changing a head gasket on the car
Mine just knows petrol goes here , tyres go around, and the only nut is behind the steering wheel in the other car.
