| Thread cut patterns With so many choices what works best for what? Like do you have a favorite? Is one recommended for any particular material or depth of cut? It would be nice if they told you in the manual so that experimental work could be minimized. Do other controls have this feature? I am asking about M codes 32,33,34,73,74,75 What is the difference in G31,33 and G71,72? Says one is fixed and one is compound. I get nice threads but I would really like to know if I can get better. Thanks, Tim |

i am always using G71 with M33 M74 for making the threat, and G33 for the one finish cut, a thing what no fanuc can handle ;-) i never has made threat less then 11Tpi G71 Is a one Set cycle for the complete threat, G33 is a cycle for each cut. Example (sorry metric) M30 x 1.5 G71 G0 x 31 Z5 G71 x28 Z-20 F1.5 H2 D0.25 U0.05 M33 M74 g33: g0 x31 z5 G33 X29.5 Z-20 F1.5 (first cut) G33 X29.1 z-20 F.15 G33 X28.7 Z-20 F1.5 . . . . G33 X28 Z-20 F1.5(last cut) phx |

| Thanks for your explanation. Never used G33 yet. I do a second pass with a bid D value. I guess if I cut something other than ISO or UN I might have to look at the patterns a little closer. Most threads I do are specials in aluminum and very fine pitch big diameters. |
