    Default Autonomous Manufacturing

    I am looking for some links to help me understand the direction of manufacturing and automating feature recognition. I build low volume, high mix and need to process over 3000 custom CNC parts per shift. Tolerances are open and material is a nominal thickness and the feature work is standard (hole diameters and depth) however the location can change.
    I am looking at parametric programming and linking programs to a predetermined part name and program name. The bill of operations can changed based on customer requirements and material. Zero, zero is always off the same stops.

    3000 parts for how many machines ? what machine types ? how many people involved ? etc

    hey 2dimes / just a quick list :

    1) "okuma's igf" has the capability to create a program, starting from a shape

    2) "step-nc machine" is an okuma application, capable of delivering machining code from a 3d model

    3) there are devices for absolute parts control, that uses :
    ... light so to create a projection, with low distorsion ( scanners, microscopes + paralel light beams, etc ); output is a raster image
    ... lasers so to create a virtual model; output is a 3d solid
    * outputs from such devices may be processed by software, for future recognition, reports, etc

    4) there are devices for relative parts control, that uses high-res photos from a camera

    etc,etc,etc / capabilitiesc exists and there is still room for improvement

    it would be good to have the parts digitized, with 3d analitical surface, not 3d solids; if you have analitical surface, you no longer need future recognition, and also you can process those parts faster kindly
