Captain L370 questions

how do i tell if this has live tooling? was it an option or did they all come with the ability? Looking at a used machine to purchase. Additionally is the a good machine? Any known or constant issues about this model i should be aware of?

what should I look for or look out for on this model?

It would technically be a captain L370M on the nameplate. Fine machines.

check tapered pins of turret alignment. One pair must be taken out.

Friend, that is a very good machine, the only problem is that it has no ability to move on Y axis. The work axes are only X, Z and C (spindle)

Turret has a bore in it at each station on the surface where the bore bar holders mount to for the live tool drive to insert into and mesh with the drive gear within the turret. Not "retrofittable" in the field (the live tool turret is an entirely different turret unit from the standard turret and if it were an optional retrofit, the new turret would cost more than what you are probably paying for the machine used).

last question...what is a fair used price for one of these?

on the screen it shows a 1703 Alarm A -EC circuit breaker 1

is that an issue...machine powers up and runs fine

if it runs with that Alarm, it could be fixed easily. I would pay €200 for this lathe delivered to my site gate.

Just means a circuit breaker is tripped. Easily reset and probably caused by someone plugging into the 110 outlet on the machine with a draw of over 2 amps.

Price varies depending on condition and age hours options etc. probably in the 50 k range for a decent one but more details are needed.

We do a lot of evaluations for both end-users and machine dealers. The question you posted initially has a lot to do with a "fair price". (the live tooling). Without live tooling, these are running anywhere from low $20ks (base model, in fair condition) to about $40k, depending on options and condition (maybe even a bit higher with a sub spindle, but most W machines also had the live tooling (MW). With live tooling, I've seen them as low as $30k (usually fair condition at best) to upwards of $60k in very good/excellent condition. The control is also an issue - many came with the E100 control which, aside from taking forever to power up in the morning, is a good control. There are some with the P100 control, which I would stay away from; that control was not good at all (unlike the P200, which is a great control, which I believe was utilized on the newer Captain machines).
