Default lathe : sleeves with screws

    hello

tools may be clamped with screws inside the sleeve, and after that, the tool + sleeve is clamped into the holder

    such a thing is in images 1a ( sleeve from dealer ) and 1b ( mine )

issue with this is that :
... screws from sleeve may deform the sleeve when clamping the tool
... screws from holder are not on the same side of the tool as the screws inside the sleeve; this leads to internal tension inside the sleeve among 2 directions, that leads to sleeve deformation, that leads to losing holder bore cilindricity ( in time )

this phenomen depends on heat treatment, screw tight forces, play between holder and sleeve, etc

result may be a sleeve blocked inside the holder, or a sleeve that can not fit inside it

case 1 : image 1a left : screws from holder tight the tool directly
case 2 : image 1a right, and image 1b : screws from holder tight the sleeve

case 1 is not good for small tools, because screws may leave a mark on them, making the tools harder to take out from the sleeve, or put back in; in this case is good to put a "how do you call it ? ( image 1c ) " so to clamp on that, and not on the tool; this thing from image 1c should be paralel for small tools, or not paralel, just like in the image, for whistle notch, so to create the "pull effect"

case 2 is not good for bigger tools, because sleeve wall is tiny, and thus sleeve deformation may appear

Default Re: lathe : ( reduction ) sleeves with screws

i try to protect bore inside holders as much as possible, thus keeping them cilindrical, and with the cilinder pretty equal

play between my sleeves and holders is <0.02

at such small plays, tools go pretty coaxial when working one after another, and holders bore deviation when indexing is reduced ( different bores from id holders will index at a very small distance between them )

stock sleeves & holders are craft with bigger tolerances, and this is good if tools are short thus simple machining

i eliminated the 2 direction tension, as shown in attached images

ps : even more, considering that there are no deformations, when screws inside the sleeve are not on same tool side as screws inside the holder, tool may get rotated a drill works if rotated, but an inside turning knife won't work if rotation is big, especially when it must cut inside a small diameter hole

attached sleeve also reduces tool rotation
