AFAIK, G74 will not retract out of the hole.
When you say it will also not read a G83, do you get an alarm when you try one? The drilling canned cycles (G83, etc.) were options, and they're probably not enabled on your machine.

Ok I am having trouble with g74 peck drilling. I can get the peck cycle to work but I can not get it to retract all the way out of the just. It just retracts a set amount. The machine has a fanuc 18-t control. It will also not read a g83.
