Yes, this is a twin spindle, and each side has a tool probe. I'll check them, but usually wouldn't give a touch setter alarm?

Ok, I did find the alarm in the book. Here is what the alarm says:

    1309 Sensor protect
After touching, the sensor moved over the preset distance (at optional parameter long word No. 24). Or, the turret directly h it the protection limit before it touches the sensor.
    [Object] Axis
    [Code] Sensor input number
    [Probable Faulty Locations]
    1) Parameter setting error: The value set at the parameter (long word) No. 24 is too small compared with the federate in the gauging cycle.
    2) Program error, operation error: An attempt is made to execute the program in which the sensor is brought into contact with the object in cycles other than the gauging cycle. Or the similar operation is attempted.
    3) Contact failure of slip ring
    4) Defective sensor element
    5) Chartering occurs depending on the machining condition

    [Measures to Take]
    1) Reset the alarm in MANUAL mode by turning ON the emergency limit release switch in the control box and take the turret away from the touch setter using the pulse handle. When the turret moves out of the stroke end limit, turn OFF the emergency limit release switch.
    2) Set a proper value at parameter (long word) No. 24, or reduce the federate in the gauging cycle.
    3) Correct the program so that the sensor is not brought into contact with the object in cycles other than gauging cycle.
    4) Check the slip ring.
    5) Change the sensor element.
    6) Eliminate the chartering during machining

In talking to the operator, he wasn't even running a probing cycle. The turrets are no where near the probing area. We did flip the overtravel switch and moved all the axises around, but as soon as we flipped the switch back, the machine alarmed out again with the same alarm. There is the number 100 in the parameter 24, but really, none of that has been touched.

4 button type pre setter? One is not working, Z obviously. either stuck, or contact/wire went bad. They are normally closed, so if the control sees an open, alarm.

Problem found. One of the touch setters is bad. Actually, I started unbolting the cover on the arm, and smoke rolled out of the connection. Hotter than a pistol! Now it is just down to stringing the new cable and replacing the head. Thanks for your help!
