    Post Okuma to LNS Bar Feeder Program

    HELP NEEDED !.....I have a Okuma CNC Lathe Cadet-W with a OSP5020L control ,and a LNS Quickload Bar Feeder set up to the machine.My question is does anyone know what subprogram is needed for the operation in a automatic application ? I have made some progress, but don't want to kept spinning my wheels on this.

    I posted this a while back with no luck , but fact remains the same ..... I still could use the help if anyone has some suggestions.

    I don't have any specific info on your bar feeder set-up but the process isn't complicated.
    The bar feeder just feeds bar. An M code is needed to make it start. You position a stop at X0 at your required length in front of the chuck and the bar hits the stop and stops feeding. The chuck clamps then you machine the part as normal. Its pretty simple.
    Where are you stuck?

    mainly on the specific M code needed to communicate to the bar feeder from the controller. I have used many bar feeders in the past and have the basics down , but the M codes I have used in the past on other machines don't work on the one. So hoping that with this control type being a older one that some one there may know the proper M code needed to tell the bar feeder to push as well as retract and pick up new bar. I have asked both Okuma and LNS and have very minimal progress there, so thought I would ask the people who run the machines who know their stuff..

    What model is the bar feeder & do you have the manuals? LNS should be able to help you. Dependent on the model, you should be able to set it up one of 4 ways for the main spindle;

    1) as a bar pusher (with turret) with M-code
    2) as a bar pusher (with turret) without M-code
    3) as a bar positioner (without turret) with M-code
    3) as a bar positioner (without turret) without M-code

    We don't have any Okuma lathes running a bar feeder, but the basics should be fairly simple. I'm surprised you're not getting the help you need from LNS.

    The Bar Feeder is a LNS Quick Load SA ... I did get a PDF copy of the manual from LNS , not much on the machine side of things in that manual. LNS said they couldn't help with the program end of it , that I would have to get with Okuma. LNS did ask if I had "User Task 2" software , and I did confirm with Okuma that I did, but when I asked for help on program end from Okuma , they wanted to send a tech out. I am trying to avoid that as that will cost money. But may have to go to that if needed.

    Oh. That looks like an older model. Don't think they even make that anymore. Forget what I stated earlier as I'm not sure if that even applies to that model. Ours are all Servo S3 units. Probably can't help you much with the SA.

    Sorry & good luck!

    It really depends on if the machine had the factory barfeed interface or was scabbed in. You will need the Mcode, and a end of bar signal to run the top cut program. I'm surprised Okuma can't at least give you what the factory interface Mcodes are.
