Have you considered having it reground in the machine? I know some people have had it done that way with good results. Pulling the spindle is not a lot of fun (we've done it for bearings) and is not cheap either.
best regards,
I have an Okuma ES-V4020 machine that has a damaged spindle taper and I need to remove it to send out for repair. I have all of the manuals for it except the parts book with the exploded drawings. Does anyone else have an exploded view that would give me some insight on how to get her out safely? Has anyone else done this before, and can you offer any insight into this process? I know that the general idea is to take off the belt and lower the spindle out from the bottom, but I know it cannot be just that simple.
Has anyone figured out a good way to keep chips from going up in the tool changer and getting stuck to a tool shank and subsequently trashing the taper in the machine when you unknowingly do a tool change with it still on there?
Thanks

best regards,
I had spindle grinding service grind a taper on a Fadal VMC. They did a great job! Only took a couple hours and they checked all my tools too.
