Need Spindle To Turn While Chuck Is Open

I have a basic 370 with a FMB feeder and I need the spindle to slowly turn while the chuck is open so hex bar can be loaded. How do I bypass the chuck open alarm?

    normal Okuma codes are.....

    for sub spindle

    M246/M247 - sub spindle interlock release off/on

    M248/M249 - sub spindle chuck close/open

    for main spindle

M184/M185 main spindle interlock release off/on

    M83/M84 main spindle chuck close/open

Thanks for the reply. I have used those main spindle M codes and had no luck.

Try M51. That used to be for chuck air clean out, so it would jog at a low RPM with the chuck open. Not sure if it works any longer.

I wish I has a chuck air clean out code on my machine. I'm forever blowing out the crap in sub spindle with air gun after each part is complete. Pain in the ass

ok if M184/M185 does not work tell us which Okuma control you have.....

The controller is a OSP-P200L. I played around with the machine today and could not get it to read past the M185 line. No matter where I put the M185 in the program it would stop on that line and never had a alarm.

No alarm suggests the machine is waiting for something to happen.
If you leave it running for 5-10 minutes do you receive an alarm or timeout message?

I have the full OSP-P200L manual set here in pdf. The M codes are correct.

    From the manual......

    Chuck open/close interlock release command

M184 .... Chuck open/close interlock release OFF command

M185 .... Chuck open/close interlock release ON command

    Example transfer program

Worked on this problem a little more today and used the airblow m89 & m88 and the spindle would turn like I wanted but I was getting a 3718 or 1740-1 alarm as the feeder was pushing the bar through the chuck.

Looks to me like your bar feeder is the culprit. Many of them are looking for a spindle zero speed (provided by the okuma) in order to feed. Since you are getting a Coupling device error or external Chuck clamp alarm, I'd look at the feeder to see if you can change a parameter to allow rotation or re-wire if need be to allow it.

By the way are you using the Okuma bar feeder interface? If you are, double check your bar feeder parameters to make sure the chuck rotation interlocks are off. If you have the system link OFF and try your interlock release codes, do they work?

    Best regards,

M185 should work if the machine is equipped with it as it is an option!

I worked on this problem for several days and I'm thinking I did use the M185. I think the bar feeder needs to be rewired.
