There is no Peck tapping cycle as such. You will need to use a G184 on consecutive lines
We have just aquired a Multus B400-W and there is a job lined up for this machine with quite a few tapped holes. Is there a peck tappping cycle for this machine? The application dept, of the machine supplier, seem quite bemused why someone would need to peck tap.![]()
We went through the same senario when we purchased our MA600-HB Horizontal but they eventually came back with "G282- peck tapping" and we have been happily 'peck tapping' eversince.
The cycles are different codes on the Multus compared to the Horizontal and I've not had much chance to mess around with it yet. So if anyone knows the Peck Tapping G-code I'd be very greatful.

Ahh, ok.
I presume you mean using incrementing Z depths
e.g.
G184 Z-5 ... ... ... ... F..
Z-10
Z-15
Z-20
G180
This must mean the spindle orientates to the same position when it taps every hole (not all machines do)
Forgive my newbie style questions as I'm at the stage of being the only one running this machine after two weeks of training!!
But the tapping example I have, uses G178-Syncronised tapping cycle as opposed to G184 M-tool compound fixed cycle: Tapping.
Does this mean G178 is with a rigid holder and G184 is with a floating holder (by the way, we always rigid tap). If not, what is the difference?
I forgot to mention the control is P200L on a 2007 machine. And tapping using the milling spindle.
Here's my program for the tapping:
M341 (TOOL17~1/8 NPSF TAP)
M110 (ENGAGE C AXIS)
G138 (Y AXIS MODE ON)
G174 SX=117.779 SZ=-71 SY=0 (SLANT MODE DATUM SHIFT)
G127 B60 (SLANT MODE ON)
N17 G0 G95 SB=400 X0 Y0 M13 G52 TL=017017 BT=0 BA=60 C0 M15 M8
G0 Z50
G178 X0 Y0 Z-16 K48 F0.9407 C0
G180
G0 C180
G178 X0 Y0 Z-16 K48 F0.9407 C180
G180
G0Z100
G175 (CANCEL DATUM SHIFT FOR SLANT MODE)
G126 (SLANT MODE OFF)
G136 (Y AXIS MODE OFF)
X9999 G94 M9
G20 HP=1 M12
M146 (UNCLAMP C AXIS)
G0 C0
M109
M30
"Does this mean G178 is with a rigid holder and G184 is with a floating holder"
Yeah but G184 can be changed by a parameter.
Had a chance to have a play around today and.......the Multus does have a peck tapping cycle. I inserted a D and L in the G178 block, similar to the peck drilling cycle, and hey presto it pecked
Tried it with G184 and there was no peck.
I checked the parameter page and saw 'peck amount in tap cycle' so figured it should do it.
No idea what 'G184/G298 tapping mode~concurrent' means though
And a pic of my sample program test
Any ideas on G289? Is it a one touch IGF thingymajig code? (not touched on that yet)
"No idea what 'G184/G298 tapping mode~concurrent' means though"
Yep that is the parameter that sets G184 to rigid tapping
Good find with the peck tapping. We will have to remember that one.
