    multipass threa

    i have an osp 700l i've been turning 3.5-16 threads (male andfemale mating pcs. i'd like to submit a multipass part to the customer for him to look at.my question is ifn i add q4 to my thraed cycle do i increase f to .25.also do i need 4 pass thread on male as well as female or can i just do the female and get the same result.any imput is appreciated

    Adding Q4 to the threading cycle will tell the machine to cut a 4 start thread still at 16 TPI
    If you want to screw your parts together, you had better make BOTH the internal and external threads the same!
    Do you mean by the term "Multipass" to mean "Multi-Start"?
    If you still want to maintain 16TPI but with 4 starts you will have to increase the threading pitch to 0.25" otherwise you will end up machining off your thread... or at least most of it!

    thanks brian.the goal is to decrease the number of turns to assemble the parts. i guess thats multi start.thanks for the info.
