we have a LAW-C and Law-S, both have the 5000 control. guess a week or two ago the -S had a index error. I wasnt here, another guy pulled the clamp prox from the upper turret thinking it was bad- but I dont think it was realized that Okuma used NPN switches...there is NOTHING displayed on the I/O page from the turrets, its not just the one clamp switch
on the other (LAW-C), clamp/unclamp and station bits change as it indexes-on this machine, nothing. I rang out the wiring to the TCC-A card, everythings intact to that point, so we got a spare TCCA...still nothing.

someone else had installed the new tcca, and didnt check the chip, it was still trying to index, but klunky for lack of a better word...I pulled the tcca out yesterday to check and saw the eprom was different, put the original prom into the new card, its back to exactly the same situation as 2 weeks ago...upper turret will index if manual index called, but it wont fin out...sits a few seconds and faults with a "206-1 alarm-A", and no bits on the input page are changing at all. Lower turret just unclamps and faults- but I'm not sure if it ever even worked, only running a 2 axis toolpath currently.
I understand the problem occurred twice before being permanent, first couple times rebooting 'fixed' it, so they never called maintenance till it died.

The Bubble card and one its bolted to are both literally caked with crap from the fans blowing thru the control- I didnt want to even try to clean any other cards for worry of corrupting the memory(no backups that I know of).

didnt know if there was a common failure mode to turret I/O problems- any pointers appreciated
