    Bar pulling Question

    Hello all, quick question reguarding orienting the spindle durring a bar pulling sequence. The machine is an Okuma LB10 II with the osp700l controls. Previously we have used all round stock, but now with the hex I am having trouble orienting the spindle to grab on the flat's with my spring type bar puller.
    Current seqence is:

    N1V1=0
    g50s1900
    n10g0x20z20
    nat5
    G0x3.Z.18T050505M5
    X0
    M84
    Z1.105
    M83
    X3.
    X20Z20T0500.


    Any help would be appreciated.

    What Okuma? What control? Not all, if not most Okumas do not have spindle orientation. This was usually a live tool option. There is a chuck air blow Mcode to allow you to slowly jog the spindle in the program with the collet open.

    I don't have Okuma spec sheets any longer, but i would guess unless it's a LB10MII, you would not have spindle orientation on that one. Maybe Superman knows.

    Key in M19 using MDI to see if the machine is equipped with spindle orietation. I think it's an option though.

    Edit: The machine does not have to have live tooling for the M19 command.

    i tried m19 came up w/ error message . i phoned the okuma guys in conneticut they want to send a guy w/ a few discs over to install the option. their quoting it now.these are the same people that charged me $500 for the battery.i'll let you know the $ when i hear from them but i sure would like to change the parameters myself if its anything like my fanuc

    No, you can't on an Okuma, its software.

    I think we should have a bet. Price is right rules.

    My guess 2500 for software, and 750 for the service call. total 3250.

    Not me,
    asked the guys on the floor ( we have LB15II ), no ability to orientate at all
    must have the M function for orientating

    You might be able to grab the hex OD with the puller ??
    might also be a cheaper option to fit a bar feeder that pushes the material to a stop ( say, a tool shank ), opens up a more efficient use of the machine

    Sorry I get so sidetracked with joking around in other peoples threads that I forget there are issues. When you finish the part and drop it, just turn 5mm (or whatever) back and pull that, and face it off. No? Maybe too costly but it is a way. And if your careful 5mm could potentially turn into 2mm.

    Great suggestion Mr Rob!
    Sometimes the easiest of solutions is right in front of us, but just can not see the wood for all the damn trees in the way!
    (Well is sounds like a good idea to me anyway!)

    great idea rob but as you suspected length of finished part is only .625 & turning the od even .187 will effect the yield.
