    okuma safety

Hi we just purchased an okuma with osp7000m control. We recently had someone come in to see if it was safe.We were told to put up some new rails etc!!!
now the doorlock works and shuts the machine off,But there has to be a kinda setup mode where you can move the x and y axis with the door open at a slower feed, wondering if its a parameter I have to turn on,any help greatly appreciated

Sorry man. No parameter. The only way around it is illegal,by sliding a piece of metal into the safety switch. If you get injured, you would have no recourse. It's been 4 yrs since I have ran one,but I think you can run the spindle 699 RPM and move the table slowly via the pulse handle.

In MANUAL mode ( door open ), the rapid override must be turned down to 10%, ( maybe 20%), to allow JOGging a linear axis,--- the rotary axis, I think can be put up to 30%

to run the spindle, max RPM is 800

In AUTO, you must be in Single Step, also the above paramaters still apply

it's different depending on country, where this machine is aimed to be sold.
We have three position lock in European Okuma's:
middle position is "production mode", one position is "adjustment" and another "setting".
"setting" and "adjustment" modes allow to move all axis, change tool and rotate spindle. Reduced speed of course. Operator's finger on enable/emergency trigger (double action special button). No way to run coolant.
The same key on Japan safety standard Okuma's has two positions: "interlock on" or "interlock released". Machine doesn't feels door open in interlock off mode.

I think the 7000M only had key switches for NC PANEL and DOOR INTERLOCK

NC Panel controls what level of operator intervention that can occur
    and
Door interlock = 0 (OFF), allows you to actually do minimal stuff with door open.

So for you, you may find Al's comment a bit confusing, as he is talking about the newer models
