Is there at least one IGF on Your Okuma?
My name is Joe. I am new to this forum. I have been programming CNC machines since graduation from a trade school in 05. I am learning and recognizing the things I do and do not like to do. What I do like is more relevant to this thread. I like to learn more about what I do and more about what other people are doing. Unfortunately for me I am in a situation where my somewhat limited knowledge makes me the most knowledgeable in the shop. (The shop consists of 3 okuma machines, 1-mcv 4020, 1 es 4020, and 1 es l8 along with assorted manual machines and associated tooling) Which means I have nothing to learn. Therefor I have come here looking for someone or somewhere to voice my thoughts or questions most specifically about Okuma machines, and their shortcuts. When and why to call up sub programs, bolt patten help, just random coversation about these machines and controls. I am trying to further my skill and use my position and opportunity to gain the knowledge nesseccary to to gain a position in a shop where I work with more "cutting edge" technology. The purpose of this thread is to introduce myself and make acquaintainces and connections with people who may be willing to help or give some guidance, or at the least reccommend a better forum to begin my quest.

yes there is but i've never used it...
The IGF is intuitive easy. Just start from F1 and so on. You will get the result. There is "save part program in CNC" at the end. You will get the part program text in GM codes (regular CNC format). Syntacsis of this text is correct, good for training and exploring control capabilities.
Thank you for the lead. I will be giving it a shot to see what I can figure out about it. I take it IGF is the conversational part of the control then. What is the RS232 though? That is a tab on the control of one machine (or both I don't remember), but I've never pressed it to see what it does... Kinda worried it'd take me down a path I couldn't reverse and noone here would be able to help that's for sure...
RS232 is a serial communication interface. You can transfer some files from OSP outside and from outside to OSP by serial cable.

save the parameters. It's easy to put them back in case.
There is no reason to play with parameters without a need.
Welcome to the forum! This is the best I've found so far. Some pretty helpful and intelligent guys on here. They can help with most of your questions and can usually do it faster than a speeding bullet. (thought you'd like that one Superman)
The Okuma's share programming for the most part so even with your "basic" machines, 80% of what you learn can be applied to more complex machines in the future.
IGF can be a very powerful friend. Get to know it and you'll spit out good programs in short order. Take the time to set it up, and I've seen print to part in under 5 minutes!
Ask away!
Best regards,
