    NM-135 Enclosure

This is the enclosure that I will be building for my NM-135.

The base tray will be made out of 3/4" HDPE which will be bolted together as you cannot glue HDPE and sealed with shower caulk.

The HDPE tray will be grafted onto the edges of the tray that is part of the stand that comes with the NM-135.

At the back of the HDPE tray you can see a hole that is for the connectors on the back of the NM-135, with the 2 flanges you see being siliconed to the side of the NM-135 to prevent coolant getting to them. I will also take the access panels of the back of the NM-135 and seal the edges with silicon before re-assembling them.

Bolted onto the HDPE tray will be an enclosure made from 80/20 extrusions and Lexan.

The top will remain open for ventilation, keep the price down and to allow plenty of room for a power drawbar.

The doors are bi-fold and I will have a seal in the middle section that will compress when the doors are closed to prevent coolant getting out.

Looks good. I have a similar idea in mind. I like the HDPE pan. I was going to use plywood and marine paint but I like this better. I think I 'm going to go with dual doors. Does the pan have a slight angle towards the center to it? Where did you order HDPE from?

No the pan does not have a tilt, putting the tilt on makes cutting and sealing harder with the angles and I don't think it will be to much of an issue as most of the coolant will be controlled by the tray on the stand. If need be i can modify it later if it is an issue.

I ordered the hdpe from www.cuttingboardcompany.com and they will cut it to size.

Yes I did, also the attached photo is the one I made for my LMS 3501 (KX1) which was simpler as I did not use flood cooling.

Here is the enclosure I built for my NM-135. I made it out of 0.050" 5052 and have a piece of 0.250" polycarbonate that I still need to cut for the door. In the mean time I have been manually setting the sheet inside the enclosure to block the chips.

I have now finished the "basin" part of the enclosure apart from sealing it with silicon.

I am happy with how it all fit together and it is very sturdy and will not resonate.

The only thing I did not take into account, or should I say the thing I assumed and should not have was that the top of the catch tray that is part of the stand that comes with the mill was level all around and of course it is not.

The back of the catch tray is higher than the front so the basin I made is not level all around in particular on the right hand side.

I could try and shim it but even thought it is not level all the way around the seal of the HDPE against the tray is very good.

I think when I put the 8020 extrusions on it may pull it a little straighter.

Do you have a drain system setup on it for coolant?

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Hi Scott,

There is a drain in the catch tray that is part of the stand.

I have almost finished the enclosure.

I modified the front y-axis way cover to prevent it hitting the enclosure.
