NM200 Frankin' mill
After being away for awhile I'm back trying to put my NM200 mill together.
Some of you may recall that I have been waiting to receive a warranty saddle replacement for my NM200 series 2 mill. I've been waiting for nearly a year and a half. Novakon has still not delivered.
While waiting for factory replacement parts on the series 2 machine. I have been putting together a frankin' mill from a damaged series 1 machine Novakon sent to me as an interim solution.
I have most of it together and began to install the controller. I built a stand for the cabinet to clear some room on the column to counterbalance the head. My machining needs are for extreme contouring and Z-axis speed is a common problem. The gas shock on the system does not work. With my current speed and acceleration settings I can out run the shock in the positive Z direction. Near the top of the stroke the cylinder momentarily drops out of head and catches up once stopped. Eventually the machine will be setup on EMC2. Would love to hear anyone's experience with this.
Before starting up the controller all machine connections were disconnected, traced, and rerouted. I'm glad for that... as Novakon had the homing switches mis-wired (SP). The sensor switches were wired to operate on 12v input that would have supplied (as measured) a 10.6v signal to the CNC4PC BOB. The TTL input on the BOB is 5v max.
1 of the 3 sensors came from Novakon inoperable. They are marked to operate on a 6v to 36v input. I wired them to a 5v input and are working great in Mach3 for homing and limits. I do expect noise to be a problem, but not so far. I plan later set the homing and e-stop system to operate on 12v that supply 5v signals to the BOB. Still tracking down bits. (any 12v setup suggestions from others would be welcome)
My NM200 2 mill came with the problematic Sangmutan spindle motor and drive. I have not started the spindle yet. Novakon suggests not all NM200 Sangmutan setups are defective. Has anyone had any luck operating this setup? Are they all defective?
If there are examples of this setup working I would like to communicate with you. That, if there is a chance my motor might work I would like to double check all the wiring in the cabinet before firing it up. I'm looking for any wiring information, or communicating with someone to describe the pin outs.
Also has anyone taken Novakon up on purchasing the (at cost) replacement. What is the cost and how well does the new setup work?
