Most manufacturers of tooling have their own speed and feed charts. That too would be a good place to start. These numbers as I have always treated them are a nominal starting point. I have seen numbers that have been conservative and some that are at the opposite end of the spectrum.

I learned the old school way of listening to the tool, observing chip size and shape along with monitoring workpiece temp, finish and how the machine and tool are handling the speed and feed. Would make adjustments based on those basic parameters. Same principal applies to CNC.

    Good luck American!

What type of tooling and what material are you cutting? Most tool manufacturers will provide speed and feed reccomendations for their tools based on material, depth of cut, width of cut, and stiffness of spindle/ fixturing. Contact an app. eng. from your tooling supplier and they will probably be happy to help you achieve optimum results.

Little Machine Shop might have a table in their knowledge base section. They sell two small version CNC machines now.

    CIMCO Integration / Download

Go to the bottom of the page, and download the free speeds and feeds program. You punch in some info, it gives you speeds and feeds, and also gives you a g-code output to copy into your program. You can even print the info.

    ...Hope this helps

Maybe you should visit dapra and sandvik cutting tool website. Both of them have feed and speed calculator to download for free. As for material cutting speed, you ought to visit steel manufacturer ( ie. assab ). Hope this will help you start.
