    Another NM-200 coolant thread

    I originally bought my V1 mill without the coolant system because it seemed I would have a problem with the extra width. However, after a year of slinging swarf all over, I decided to get the enclosure and enhance its shielding as others here have done. I picked up the kit at NAMES a month ago, but just got around to starting to install it yesterday.

    Although most users have complained about insufficient flow and tank size, I'm going to start off with the Novakon pump system. I did get the "improved" V2 system, so perhaps it will be sufficient, as I never have long, unattended runs.

    That said, the pump is 220V, 60Hz. If I were to switch to a 110V submersible, what would be the safe way to wire it and still allow the pump on/off to be handled by g-code? The existing cable has 3 wires, so I would get 110V between one and ground, but there is no neutral lead.

    the guy here never hooked up his coolant system to the pc, just plugged it into 220 with a switch. if the machine stays in the shop (long stupid story) id like to hook it to the pc for control.

    let me know how it all works

    sorry i cant offer much advice. i *think* the coolant would be plugged into a relay which connects to an output on the cnc4pc board. is there already a relay for it installed? (ive never looked).

    The cable supplied with the V2 coolant pump has a larger connector then the V1, and hence won't mount in the terminal box on my mill. Waiting to see if Khai can supply a new cable.

    I've been slowly working on getting the coolant system going as time/energy allow. I did get the cable to fit eventually by widening the mounting hole in the mill bracket, although it was quite an awkward deal.

    This week I got my enclosure built: 2 sheets of 3x2' 1/4" acrylic on the sides, plus a small front Lexan shield held with magnets:





    I tried it out today dry milling some aluminum. The chips stayed inside using an endmill, but the facemill sprayed chips over the front and also through the back corners that aren't covered by the acrylic. I need to make the front shield from a larger sheet.

    I'm missing a hose connector for the coolant tank and have emailed Khai about getting it, but no reply as yet.
