    more trinkits from the nm145

im having real problems with the 1/8" long cutters. they dont plunge AT ALL. they just buckle and widen out the corner dramatically. i though the machine was sloppy for a bit til i saw the tool while plunging. shorter cutters dont make a huge difference, as i need to go through 1/2" of metal.

im trying to alter the program to have no plunging, but ramps instead. it seems to be happier with this.

anyone got any other ideas? im thinking for production ill use a spotting end mill, which cant wander at the very least.

so, ramping seems to have fixed much of the corner issues. still not 100% perfect, but 90% anyhow. i used a shorter HSS tool this time as well. i think a short carbide tool will do the trick without having to use a spotting bit.

i took some nice HD video of this, will try and get it edited and put on youtube soon.

Normally you find that out if they break

Nice work. You ever think of doing a multi scale guitar bridge?

i designed a 9 string multi scale actually but havent built it yet. its a whole guitar with the bridge. the trouble with them is that every guitar is highly specific so you cant really make a standardised setup.

most companies just use the individual bass style bridges and screw them down where they need to be, but these are limiting if you dont want a flat top 0 neck angle setup.

the bridge above goes on a really odd redwood les paul type guitar. really neat, and really strange, i like it

9 string, that would be something to see. Yes, I agree that building a multi scale would require a spasific one peice bridge. I have seen the ABM single bridges, but wish there was other options. Even somthing that is a single bridge, but looks different than the ABM singles.

if you need something, i can make it. but the one off nature will make it rather expensive. the set above with graphtech piezeo saddles, polished and chromed its up around $700. eep! the buyer in this case took it raw and is polishing it himself and supplied his own saddles.

the normal 6 string bridge and tail set in aluminium is like $140. so the one off factor is a killer.

oddly, im making anothe one off tonight for an obscure vintage guitar. ill post pics of that when its done. i still have to post the damned video of the 9 string being cut.
