coolant what kind

need some recomendations on coolant for novakon 145 mill and also some vise recomendations thanks bob b

tri cool so far it has been working for me really well. minor explanation i decided to use flood coolant for chip removal and anti rust more than actually cooling or lubrication. so far i have had very little rust on any component as a bonus it smells nice

KoolMist 77. The only one I've ever used, just because that's what my mill came with:

- About $1.25/mixed gallon
- doesn't smell, even after 1 year
- MSDS swears it is not particularly toxic.
- I had the same batch in service for about a year before I changed it out, but it seemed just fine.

Cons:
- low-level mildly-annoying thin sticky residue everywhere (I believe this is how the anti-rust works: sticky film coats everything so oxygen can't get at the metal). Anyone know how to clean the stuff off???

- After 1.5years of using the stuff, there's a touch of surface rust here and there, but nothing to get excited over.



FYI When my mill is running, it consumes coolant at maybe 750mL/hour. Consumption is due to evaporation (spinning bits fling coolant everywhere, giving good opportunity for evaporation) and coolant amongst the chips when you shovel the chips out.
