    4th axis

as you might have noticed from my other thread my mills spindle has crapped out on me. this has got me thinking i know that in the future i was going to get a 4th axis but since it have to dive into the guts so to speak i might as well splurge a little and get the 4th axis now. that being said i talked to Khai up at novakon and got some numbers for the cost to add this on. i dont want to divulge his numbers directly on a public forum but suffice it to say it was a little more than i hoped. the price of the actual rotary table kit was what i expected but evidently the gecko drive is not included in the price of the kit and i would need to buy that kit also. i guess since i have to buy another "kit" the first "kit" is not really a "kit" then huh? that aside my actual question is would i be better off just buying a drive from gecko, a rotary table and a stepper motor and building my own or is the novakon kit worth every penny.

ive got he 8" novakon table here. its a nice piece.

in purest theory you could buy the parts and put it all together yourself, but youd be on your own making it all work smoothly.

actually i talked to another member on here about the rotary table and decided to go for the novakon 6" table and driver kit. 4" is a little to small for what i want to do and 8" might be a little big for the 145.

i think thats a good choice size wise. the 8" is huge. its on the nm200 here. it would be much too big for the 145.
