Talking New ACME Couplers at dumpsterCNC

I just wanted you guys to know that I've just added a new product to my inventory, these acme couplers have been requested quite a few times. These will allow you to connect your stepper motors to the lead screws without needing a lathe to turn them down. One end is threaded 1/2" acme (3 lead choices so far), the opposite end is bored to .250 dia. to fit a Nema 23 size motor.

    See them at: http://www.dumpstercnc.com

    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi -
I am new to the DIY CNC stuff. I am trying to build my first DIY CNC Milling table. Right now I have one I bought when I was in England and need something bigger.

What is the advantage of the couplers over some other? Also do you have an inexpensive source for the lead screws? Thanks

Hi. I think these are just the ticket! You probably dont know but are these the rod couplers used in the solsylva plans? Its just that in the solsylva plans the couplers look kinda rubbery but maybe theres is some sort of cover over them.

I am looking at these clamps:

    Remember, I am new to this, so please forgive me if my questions are to basic;
How do you know what clamps work with what lead screw?

I am now getting the parts together for my first DIY router/milling table. Want to make sure I get the right the the first time. Thanks

    Studysession,

These acme couplers allow you to connect a lead screw to a nema 23 motor without the need for a lathe to turn down the end of the screw. If you use 1/2" ID bearings, the screw only needs to be cut to length. Enco has the best price I've seen on the 1/2-10 screw, about $7 for 6ft. If you use 1/2-10 single start screws, then you'll need the 1/2-10 single start acme thread clamps, couplers, and leadnuts, if you go that route.

    diarmaid,
I'm not sure about the solsylva plans, I haven't seen them yet.

    Dumpster -
Thanks for the help - I am not familiar with the Nema 23 motors. What is the shaft size? Isn't that what really matters?

    Thanks again -

The shaft size is .250, but the ACME rod is .50, so the coupler allows you to join them.

    Hi Tim! Looks interesting.

So, it looks like you are using the motor bearings to support the rod? I thought that was a no-no.
