    Backplotting & NCPlot

I'm just trying to learn a little more here. I've come across NCPlot and don't understand what backplotting is. Could someone give a quick 2-line summary? Thanks.

    Rance,

I think backplotting is like reverse engineering. You normally start with a visual representation of your toolpaths in a CAM program. Your CAM then posts the paths as a G-Code.

A backplotter works in reverse. You feed a program like NCPlot a G-code file and it visually recreates your toolpaths so you can verify that they are correct.

I think this really comes in handy when the G-code is hand written.

    Question

Hi all , Not sure if this is the place to ask so I,ll ask away. What do you do when you want to convert code to a model and not a tool path/ can it even be done?

It can be done to a point. The quality of your model would be directly related to the info you can give it. Mastercam can reverse post nc programs but unless the program was written using cutter comp it would be off by the radius of the tool. There are other programs that will do it also, basically a nc program is a point cloud so your cad would have to have a way to manipulate it.
