Hi all, New to the forum. I've built guitars as a hobby for myself over the years by "hand" (ie. non-cnc), now I'd like to add a CNC router. I'm capable of building my own with either an mdf or metal frame, but I've been concerned about the cost of materials adding up (I'm in an isolated area and shipping eats up $$$) to more than a new machine, and I'm also concerned about ensuring that the machine is of decent quality and able to handle some other hobby tasks such as engraving in aluminum and solid surface. With that in mind, I was looking for some advice. I was considering these 3 machines: Blurry Customs 3624: http://www.blurrycustoms.com/product.../standard.html On ebay for $4400 http://cgi.ebay.com/CNC-ROUTER-24-x3...ht_3182wt_1167 Keling KL-6090: http://www.kelinginc.net/CNCmachines6090.html On ebay for $4700 http://cgi.ebay.com/CNC-Router-Engra...4#ht_982wt_883 K2CNC 3925: http://www.k2cnc.com/shop/proddetail...925%2DG&cat=26 Substantially more, it would seem, at around $6000-8000 So, here are my questions: 1. I realize that the K2CNC is highly recommended. How does it surpass the other mentioned machines? Is it worth the extra $$$ for primarily guitar building (realizing I'm not a production shop, just a hobbiest)? 2. Which of the other options would you prefer, and why? Any experiences? There has been little useful info mentioned on the forum about either (a bit about the k2). 3. Would I be better off building my own? If so, based on what plan? What have your experiences been with building your own? 4. Other options I'm missing? TIA for any help you can give. I've been trying to read through and process all the options and mainly I'm just looking for opinions barring my ability to get hands-on with any of the machines. Terry |
