I have a couple of pieces of Koa wood I bought when I lived in hawaii years back, and I've been planning on cutting them into a LP body, is anyone setup to cut the bodies out. I can do it by hand of course, I have access to a Mill but CNC would be a lot faster and more precise. maybe a ballpark estimate on cost and requirements too? |

I have a CNC router that can machine 30x50" I have also produced several guitars over the past 3 years. It's not real difficult just tie consuming. The style I made is similar to a PRS. How much wood do you have? Willy |

what kind of lp are you after archtop or flat top? If you are after an archtop do you have a thick enough piece of wood? Also something to consider is type of finish you are going to put on this guitar. you need to make sure the moisture content is proper prior to finishing and that no oils are present. If you have any questions please feel free to ask we specialize in custom exotic guitars. Chuck CHW Guitars |

| archtop of course. I know the base body material (koa) is dry, I have had it for over 5 years and the maple top I have has been kiln dried. the total thickness is 1 7/8" of koa and 3/4 " of maple so 2 5/8" total thickness |

Hello everyone, I see there are some people drawings Les Paul bodies and Chuck, you build exotic guitars. I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to explain to me how to produce the carved top of a PRS guitar. I have been trying with Rhino3d, SolidWorks 2008 and Catia, but just can't figure out what functions to use. I am able to draw anu body in 3d, but the most obscure part is the carved tops. Any help yould be very appreciated. |

| Sorry it has been a while since I posted on this we are setting up to open a guitar store unfortunately we use bobcad and I am not familiar with those programs I know with bobcad we were able to get some pretty good training to figure out some of the arch top guitar bodies we have also had a company that does laser scanning scan a shape in for us since it was a one of a kind guitar. |
