Here's a video of the initial string-up/play. Note to aspiring builders - initial setup never sounds this good. This thing had perfect action by pure random chance.
That is a beautiful guitar! I love your process. I have created two electric guitars on my cnc mill, at work. A Les Paul, and PRS. I have a couple of questions for you. What do you use for a vacuum pump? What do you use, cutter wise, for making fret slots? Speed and feed settings?
Thanks.
For the pump, I use the same vacuum pump I got form joewoodworker.com. Meant for doing the vacuum bagging, I just put a different type of hose on it to push into the vacuum jigs.
I use the fret cutter bits from precise bits.com ... BUT.... it is .025" bit, and I found that my slots are little too loose on the fit, so I've started using the .020" shell cutter bits to make they're snug. Maybe spindle runout causing that. I do .010" cut per pass, rather slow (whatever they're listed feed rates are). Running bout 12K rams IIRC.
Man how does this thread go without comment for 2 years!
Exquisite guitar and the presentation was excellent, thanks for all the work you put into showing your methods. 5 thumbs up.
Over here from the CNCRP forum.
Cheers
Love your designs!
