    Depth problem

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I work at a company in Oceanside, New York called Mac Specialties. We have a Multicam 1000 Series Router. Now I'm pretty new at working with a CNC type machine. So I'm just learning how to use it. Our machine is mainly used for cutting printed sheets of coroplast with a knife and for thicker, heavier material such as plastic, we use the drill bit of the router. The software that we use for the router is Enroute.

So here's the problem. I can change the depth of the knife or the router drill bit in the Enroute software but sometimes when I'm cutting a sheet with the knife or drill bit, it won't cut completely through the sheet. So when I go to edit the depth on the machine and then check to see if it cuts all the way through, it still doesn't. I'll keep increasing the depth on the machine but it will still cut at the original depth that I set in the software program. It's like the machine is ignoring my changes to the depth setting. Could there be something in Enroute that I need to change in order to prevent this from happening or is there something on the machine that I need to change? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

    Depth Problem

With the Multicam machine, there is an ability to go beyond the max depth that the machine calculates, it is called max depth override, to get to it:

    1. Hit your shift key, this is on the right hand side of the keypad 3rd key from the bottom, looks like a green up arrow.

    2. Then the max depth key, which is the 3rd key from the bottom, on the left hand side, looks like a blue in color, 90deg angle with 0,0.

Once you hit that combination of keys, you can use your up z key to add to the max depth override. This will only work if you have added to your cut depth in Enroute.

Lets say the material .121, if you program in Enroute this exact amount, you most likely will not cut completely through your material. But if you program, let say a extra .010 in Enroute , and you go to your max deplth override, and increase from 0 to say .005. They router will know go .005 beyond the max depth that you have measured and allow you to cut through you material. If you do not adjust max depth override, not matter what you program Enroute for, it will not go deeper

    Hope this helps.

I know it's late but thanks for that advice. It really helped us out.

Now I have another question. We seem to have problems when using the knife in our router. We always seem to break the knife a lot. We have to keep putting a new knife in the knife holder a lot of times and it eventually breaks while we're using it. Do you know if there is a special kind of knife to use in a router that will never break?

    Depth Problem

There could be a couple of reason for the breakage, give me a call I can help you out.

There maybe some setting we can change or it maybe as simple as changing your the way you set your surface and max depth.
