I have a piece of string.
I can hold each end in my hands.
I've been "Googling" it all day, and now I'm really confused.
Can anyone tell me how long it is?
Pretty please?
I have a 1983 Mori Seki SL3 lathe with Fanuc 6T (A) control
can anyone tell me the max diameter you can turn on this machine,
I have seen so many different statements on the web like 9" 10" even up to 15" when I home the "x" it stops at -172.8mm(6.803") does this mean I can turn approx 12" diameter ?
thanks
BR

What are the reference points when booting the machine?
Usually it goes to the outer limits of the machine.
Otherwise, try to search a more specific description of the machine.
There's probably a solid picture with more data perhaps even the maximum diameter
10 inch general max turn for SL-3 model
Sometimes you can modify a tool holder to get a bit more depending on the length of
workpiece and material properties.
There are other variables such as turret interference with adjacent tooling and chuck/clamping configuration.
Generally I try to stick with 10 inch max on my SL-3 just to play it safe
