    z-axis servo alarm

Got a nv 5000 and sv-50 giving me a z-axis excess error alarm at the end of each cycle.

    go 91 g28 z0.0
    m30
    ALARM.....z-axis excess error
However, If I turn the door interlock switch off (disable) on both machines, no alarm will be generated on either machine. I noticed that the z-axis will drop approx. .200" off machine home position at the end of each cycle. When alarm is reset and machine is restarted machines return to home position. Could it be that the z-axis brakes not working properly is what is causing this alarm to generate?

So, you get an excess error at end of cycle when the door unlocks?

Yes, Z axis brake is not working correctly. The servo shuts off when the door opens, normal. You can take the brake off (block the head) clean it and adjust the tension screw a slight amount. maybe 1/4 turn at a time until you see less than .030 drop. Too much and the brake will drag and overheat.
