Hatachi Seiki turning center

I'm looking at a 1998 Hitachi Seiki Hi Tech Turn HT-20J with Seicos Multi Control. I've been led to believe they were bought out by Mori in 2000 and that Mori is currently servicing them. I was hoping someone on this forum could tell me something about them and the accuracy of the information I have been given.

correct, sorta..... It was 2003 I think
But yea, Mori service will fix them now. Poor service guys have to go to a custumer knowing nothing about Seicos controls and be expected to fix them. But they are supposed to be able to get parts for earlier machines like yours.

Hitachi Crapi

I was one of those poor service guys. Don't buy it. Mori has some parts, control parts good luck. The ones I worked on were very quirky at best. The quality of the REAL Mori product was far superior in my book. Look for a used Okuma or Mori. Can't go wrong with either. I see Okuma Cadets all the time for 5-8K. Not a bad machine at all.

Ya, those were the days. Did you get the "it's just another machine, you don't need training. Just go and fix it." comments from the management to?

Yea... mostly salesmen who wouldn't know the arse end of an allen key would promise the customer something and expect service to deliver.
Luckily, we had a couple of the Hitachi guys move over to Mori when they bought them so I had someone, at least I could ask questions to.
TBH, I like the Hitachi Lathes. Very well built machines.
Hitachi mills were well built as well but not knowing the Seicos controls, was difficult. Alot of customers swear by them tho
