looking to buy a Mori SL2H / need advice

I have been in the market for a lower priced CNC lathe and now I am planning on looking at a Mori 1984 SL-2H with a Fanuc 6T control, they are asking $14,900. I have set up a SL-2 in the past but it has been a little while now and it was a good machine.

Does anyone know what the H means in the SL-2H?

I am looking for advice on what to look for and any pros and cons regarding these old lathes. The machine is for business and not a hobby.

    Thanks,

I think the "H" stands for high speed (5000 rpm - I believe)., but I'm pretty sure that on a SL2-B the B stands for " barstock ".

Which I think means it has a bigger spindle bore than the H series.

I'm not so sure about the quality and dependability of the SL2-H, but I wouldn't think it would be any lesser quality than any other Mori.

I can tell you we have a 1988 Mori SL-20 which most likely replaced your SL2-H.
We put about 1000 hrs a year on it and have never had any problems with it since buying it in 2006.

Bottom line, most people that have a Mori lathe love them and think they're the best, I do.

    Good luck.

I went and looked at the machines yesterday. Both were very clean, even the hydraulic oil looked good, it wasn't yellowed. The owner is the original owner and his shop is full of new Mori Seikis. It looks like and sounded like it was still in great shape. I am not sure what this 1984 SL-3H machine is worth.

    Have any idea??

    Thanks

The H stands for a high speed spindle. Not a lot of horsepower, though. You won't be able to take a heavy cut, but the speed should offset that.
