Mr. Tire,

Yeah, Mori's recommended replacement was a Yamatake FL2B-2J6 which is a rectangular, 2-wire prox. But when I called them (i.e. Ellison - Charlotte) about the connection, their guy (incorrectly) agreed with me to wire it Black (0v) to the "0V" terminal and the other two wires (Red +24 & White signal) to the "+V" terminal. This can't work. The input signal is already high like this with no switching when the prox. is made.

I know I'm not too bright, but gee whiz, their guy must come across this every week. In his defense, the Yamatake (now "Azbil") guy told me the same thing.

Regardless, I hope to have a used oem 3-wire prox. today from Ebay that should be "plug and play". If that prox. is "n.f.g.", I'll try the replacement prox. wired to your recommendation.

Many thanks,

Sounds to me that by mis-interpreting that, one way you could either blow the Prox or the input on the card, if the wrong decision is made?

Al,

The I/O is okay but the prox. may be n.f.g.

I got my (used) Ebay prox. this morning and installed it. Had to get alot closer than the 2mm sensing range to get a good signal (more like .5mm), but the mo-sheen is back making parts (until the next obsolete prox. fails....)

Onward thru the fog....

What material is it sensing? the standard Balluff target for testing 'a square mild steel plate 2mm thickness'.

Al,

The CLAMP prox. reads off the face of a steel (ferrous alloy - it's slightly rusty) ring that moves in and out with the clamp cylinder inside the turret. The steel ring has dogs (teeth) that rotate with the toolpost triggering three other of the same style prox's to detect turret position.

I figure that the oem prox. has lost a little sensitivity in its old age. (I know I have in mine !)

But it works and all is well for now.

Thanks,
