SL-25B Mori Seiki Lathe Spindle Problem

We have a problem with the spindle locking pin that will not move, it is in a retracted position. The spindle quill moves IN and OUT fine but the locking pin does not extend to lock the spindle for movement. We do not have the electrical schematics or manuals.. any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are you talking about the tailstock and tailstock quill? Spindles don't move in and out on a SL.

Mori Seiki Lathe Spindle Trouble

I am trouble-shooting this machine for the first time. Yes the quill moves in and out fine in manual and using M codes... but i think the spindle lock pin which is hydraulically controlled on this machine needs to extend so it engages with the tool change turret assembly, then when that axis moves it drags along the spindle base at the same time... our trouble is the pin is not extending outwards.. not sure if an Mcode is required or the mechanism is jammed..we have limited info.. i am an electronics engineering technician so I approach problems from that point of view... I noticed some you-tube video's and a different version of this same machine has a manual pin that i see the operator engages by hand for this movement to happen.

You have the auto-tow along option on that tailstock. The Z axis has to be in the proper position for the pin to engage, there is a Mcode ( i dont have a ladder here to look it up) to position the Z axis to the last known drop off position. There also should be a manual menu under "custom" on the later machines, under "aux" on the 0-T controls. Don't try to push the tailstock around, unless you get the pin to extend, the base is hydraulically clamped on that model.

The automatic tailstock pick-up is G479 on Mori's

like this.... (workshift reference setting tool = T2)

(AUTO REMOVE TAILSTOCK)
G28 U0
M26 (QUILL BACK)
G0 T0202
G479 (GO TO TAILSTOCK PICK-UP POSITION)
M78 (UNCLAMP)
G28 W0 (ZERO RETURN Z)
M79 (CLAMP)
G00 Z200.0
T0200
M1

(AUTO ADVANCE TAILSTOCK)
G28 U0
G0 T0202
G479
M78 (UNCLAMP)
G00 Z50.0 (YOU NEED TO SET THE Z HERE YOURSELF SOMEWHERE NEAR THE PART USUALLY BETWEEN Z20.0 AND Z100.0 WORKS. REMEMBER THE Z POSITION IS IN RELATION TO THE TOOL POSITION NOT THE TAILSTOCK POSITION)
M79 (CLAMP)
T0200
M25 (QUILL FORWARD)
M1
