MV Junior System Error "E" Fanuc 10

Hi everyone!

I need some help with a vertical machining center, which I recieved already defective from a friend.

If you apply power to the machine and push the green ON button, the CRT remains dark.

The 7 segment display on the master board of the fanuc 10 control shows "E".

As I have already found out here:

This indicates a system error.

Im an electrical engineer, with acces to various diagnosis tools (Scope, Eprom-readers and programmers and so on)...

Has anyone a clue an where I should start the search?

Could it be, that the machine is damaged beyond repair?
The batteries are very old, and have probably not been changed regularly as inditacted, could this be a problem?

I hope anyone can suggest me some things to try other than "replace master board"...

Just checked all the fuses I could find. All good.

The Battery (AM1) reads 4.7V. Could not find the specified rating. Is this OK?
