Default x shift Mori Seiki JR mill

    hi
i got a Mori Seiki JR mill
just recently i got out of the blue x shifts that happen randomly
some days i get nothing all works well then without any reason the x axes shifts by about .01"
not so critical when i do the first side of a part but when i work on the second side the shift will create scrap parts
    also what i noticed is
when the shift happens and i send the machine home in x i get an over travel alarm which persists even when i try multiple times
but when i shut the machine down and do a restart it finds the home no problem

    any ideas

I have had this problem on a machine that had a combination of fanuc ac servos and glass scales. The ref return dog was set improperly, causing it to jump grid. This would happen only on startup and it would jump the marker pulse with, about .125 . On a machine without scales and during operation I think it points to a bad pulsecoder.

    replaceable yes. repairable, meh
I have successfully replaced fanuc yellow cap motor encoders with these. I will get the exact item number I bought and post it Optical Rotary Encoders | AutomationDirect

Here is the one I used along with a pinout of something. Its been too long. I had to make two adapter parts. One for the flange and one for the shaft. nothing major.
