    Dimension check - Wood enclosure

I just finished most of the wood work and found an issue. The width of the Rear Flange Plate is listed as 30" and that is what I built it to. The problem is that the Rear Plate is listed as 29.688. Once you add the 1/4" left skin and the 3/4" right skin, you now have a total width of 30.688 which is much wider than the rear flange plate. When I set the top on, the enclosure sits on the rails. Was there a dimension mistake on the plans or did I misinterpret how to build the base unit? Now I'll probably have to female the top part.

Except for that, my build goes well. Almost all the wood work is done, all of the metal pieces are done except the router mount and everything is going together pretty well. I'll post some pics soon.

The only thing left to buy is the electronics. I'll post another thread about that.

The fit of the cover is admittedly a bit awkward. It is in fact narrower than the case, because the cover plastic sits to the outside surface of the rear flanges and then contacts the case just to the outside of the rails. This puts the flanges down on top of the rails. If you want to notch the bottoms of them so they mate to the rails, that's fine, but you can also just use the gap to put a little piece of foam insulation in there. Just center the rear flange plate on the machine and all should be more or less ok.

The next big revision to the plans will solve these quirky little issues with a completely redesigned base and cover. It will also give some more room for electronics. Look for a preview of the prototype in a few months. In the meanwhile, the current design works well, but it does have the occasional weird little thing going on, as you've discovered.

Thanks. So far, I'm enjoying the build.
