Dimension Check, Parts 15 and 17

    Hi Bob, et-al;

A question about parts 15 (3) and 17 (1). These are the bearing trucks for the Y/Z carriage. All of these parts have a .3125 (5/16) through-hole to carry a 5/16" socket head cap screw for the bearing axle. They also have holes for set screw adjusters.

I am guessing that the through-hole should be 3/8" (0.375) to allow for adjustment instead of the .3125" show on the plans? I should have asked before I put it together, but better late than never.

On a different note, mine lives! I still need to finish the Z axis slider and to the final alignment, but it works. Pictures to follow.

    Randy,

Glad to hear the monster lives. Look forward to seeing more photos.

    Randy,

I had my "marked-up" plans right next to the computer here and yes, the holes you are referring to should be 0.375". I have the version 1 plans and questioned this same one as well. I thought I mentioned this to Bob but may have missed it.

Thanks. I figured that was the case. I may be able to align things by loosening the nuts on the studs and moving the whole bearing block. If not they will have to come off and get re-drilled.

Whoops, sorry about that. Yep, they should be 3/8" holes.

The machine is looking great! I love the yellow color scheme. I had actually painted mine a yellowish orange originally. But when I decided to put the plans together I was concerned that it didn't photograph well, so I took it apart and repainted it the neutral gray, which captures subtle shadows better. But now you are making me wish it was orange again.

Can you post a screen shot of the markup? I'm not exactly sure which holes should be .375. Also, what's the latest version of the plans? I have version 1.2.

Version 1.2 is the latest, so you are up to date.

It is the long hole, that goes all the way through the length of each part. In the little 3d isometric view, it will be the hole that is visible on the "top" of the part, coming out the "bottom". (These parts install in various orientations on the machine, so top & bottom are relative terms)

Sorry about that, it is on my list of things to fix for version 1.3.

Awesome. Thanks Bob! If you have a temporary list of fixes in draft form, is this something I can get my hands on since I'm starting my build this week? Just a simple bulleted list would work. I don't need a whole new package. I'm most interested in changes to the metal components at this point. Let me know if you are willing. Thanks.

Yeah, let me dig out the list when I get home later. I believe it is mostly small inconsequential things like spelling typos, subtle rewording of things for clarity, etc., but if there is anything else that is important, like the error above, I'll post it here. Actually, if there are more than one or two errors I'll post the info to a new thread so it is more visible.

Most of the changes I've been planning for the next release of the plans are bigger design related things, as well as some additional content. I think I mentioned a lot of it in the Momus Wish List thread. Those are things that will take some development time, and significant time to rephotograph and re-write descriptions. So it is possible I'll release a version 1.3 soon, just to clean up the few remaining typos, and then the bigger changes will be in a version 2.0 in the more distant future.

I've actually slowly started to work on some of those bigger changes, and I'll probably post them here first as a series of update threads, before integrating them into plan version 2.0. That will be the fastest way for people to get to see what is happening, and I can get some feedback before making the commitment to fully change the plans.

I think a "Momus plans update - PRE-RELEASE" thread is a great idea.
