| We used a book in at Vincennes I think was call injection mold tooling design. Every once in a while I think the industrial press runs books and manuals in the mags. for machinists. Like the machinists handbook is usually in there at the same time. Hope this helps. If not call Vincennes University in Vincennes Indiana and see what book they are using to teach the mold classes today. Ask for the machine trades department and get ahold of Joe Merchant (no it is not a made up name). He is the worlds biggest red neck in captivity though. |

Hi, I have been in the moldmaking business for over 35 years and have never seen a published how-to book on how to go about designing molds (injection). Most of the good designers and builders of molds learned from experience , working with older moldmakers who taught them the basics and you take it from there. Most of the publications I've seen are more or less advertisements for products to assist in the process. It all depends on what feild you're designing for. I can help you with specific questions based on my experience, but it may not be useful in you're field. I design tools for the Point of Purchase Industry that is a 'due as of yesterday' field of advertising. We build displays and 'in store racks and display systems' for some of the largest cosmetic companies, Walmart too. If you find such publications, I'd like to have a look-see. This is a dying art form being out-sourced to China among other cheap labor countries. But you can still do well in it , if you use your noodle and make the most of your talents. Sorry, Just my 2 cents. |

| I can't recommend any books but take a look at this link http://www.seattlerobotics.org/encod..._art/molds.htm It is a basic overview of mold making. I agree with toolrm most of it you learn over time by trial and error. |

| Just another suggestion. Look up some Injection Molding and / or Moldmaking companies in your area. Tell them that you are interested in the field of design and would like to tour the facility. There has to be a few that aren't concerned your a spy or trying to steal secrets or something of that nature. They may even be willing to answer questions you may have. Just a thought. |
