Default NEED HELP! machining tool steel h13

    hi,

I am working on tool steel H13 and having a hard time getting the right stepover. Im using an indexable cutter from iscar. 7inserts - 1" dia.
RPM= 2005, feed 29.4 ipm, stepover= .25, DOC=.05 but i keep breaking the inserts. Can someone help to figure out what the stepover should be for an indexable cutter.

    Thanks!!!

A quarter inch stepover seems like it might be a bit too aggressive to me, although I can't comment on the setup your using. I typically use around a 10% to 40% step over depending on the finish and cutter/material used. Have you tried dropping it to a 10%, and is the cutter your using definitely suitable for the material and speed/DOC?

    cheers, Ian

    It's a state of mind!

im using PVD TiAlN coated inserts, Thanks for the response Ian, i dropped the stepover to 5% and seems to be working better but it'll be slower. i kept the same rpm's and feed's
