Lathe help

I have a Sieg C6 Lathe. I have been suing it for aluminum and steel, but now I want to cut wood for a project. What do I need to do, to make it where I can cut wood with chisels on the Lathe?

I do not want to make any permanent modifications to the Lathe. Most of my projects involve aluminum and steel. But I do want to do a project or two with wood.

I'm not sure of the proper terminology, but can't you fit a toolrest to the cross-slide instead of the normal toolpost. Have a look at some pics of wood lathes. They have a kind of T bar that you rest your chisel on and guide it by hand.

Thats what i was thinking. Alternatively, just use your metal turning tools to cut the wood! Anything designed to cut ali should work on wood.

Not sure the effects of wood turning on your metal lathe though, surely all that dust is gonna do some damage, particularly if the wood is a bit wet?

I know lms sells stuff to mount wood and has the steadyrest(I think thats the term for it) for the 7x12, you may want to look there, I bet you could make your own.

I've turned wood on a metal lathe. Just do it. Nothing special you need to watch out for. If you want to use hand held wood working tools, get or make a t shaped rest. COvering your bed will make the clean up easier.

Are you happy with that model lathe? It has just recently been stocked by a local company, and looks like the nicest of the 9X models.

YES - I like it. Would like to do a CNC conversion eventuially. I have a CNC Mill. It is a Sieg Micro Mill. I like them both just wish I bought a bigger mill.
