When I got my Sherline 4400 lathe along with some CNC stuff, he'd thrown in this NEMA23 he had lying around: Tormach DRM 23HS5406 104 .N cm (about 140-something oz-in) That motor is a single-shaft and I all too often want to run this manually, so I must replace this motor. On my G540 with 48v power supply and Smoothstepper, running at the specified current, that motor is just too easy to stall jogging in and out at speeds I wouldn't especially call "fast". I did follow the alignment procedures, I don't think I did anything wrong. I looked through Keling, I could get the 282 steppers I know well since they're on my Taig mill. Or, I could get a 185 oz-in dual shaft, and save a few bucks. Any thoughts? Is there anything about the larger size motor that would be a problem? It's physically longer, but I don't see any actual problem there. The 185 oz in worries me because it's not that much larger than the one already in there which has strength issues. |
