motor failure

Hi there,
Where are you guy's getting parts for your lathe? I have a Craftex 7X12 that I bought used a few years ago. I replaced the brushes in it when I bought it and has worked great up until now. It looks like the armature has shorted out this time so I need a new motor. so leads on where to buy parts would be greatly appreciated.

All of my mini-lathe parts came from www.littlemachineshop.com

Shipping to Canada is a bit expensive but the service and selection are outstanding.

You might want to verify if this will work for your lathe, before purchase.

Also you might want to check with Busy Bee to determine if you can get it cheaper through them.

They sell the armature for mini lathe, I don't know if its the same as yours but it might be.

Hello Kert. You could find the fault could be the suppression capacitor fitted in side the end cap near the brushes, i had this happen to me, first i removed it to prove that was the fault then replaced it. this on a unimat-sl. 95 watt motor.

Thanks for the reply's and links.
My motor looks physically identical to the one at the Little Machine Shop.

Micheal, my motor has no capacitor's in the end housing. Thanks anyways.

It is possible that your commutator grooves are clogged with carbon. This will short out and not allow the motor to function. If you can gently scrape that out, you may be able to save the motor.

Ok I cleaned between the comutator bars. No Luck. The windings are still shorted to one another but not to the shaft
