If I were close enough to see it in person, I would

Whether or not it's a great deal depends on the condition it's in. You really need to take a closer look. The seller may be willing to deal.

Opinions vary but some people say the 8x12 (actually supposedly an 8x14) is a better machine unless you really need that extra inch of swing or 8" of length. No QCGB though.

jeeze they really are almost identical. and a hundred bucks less. I won't need the extra length except for the "through hole" which takes care of that. Thanks for helping me decide

damn. neither of these lathes were in stock at harborfreight. i don't think you could apply a coupon to a custom order but also the coupon would expire by then. well back to browsing craigslist

I got the 7x10 at Harbor Freight, on sale, with the 20% off of the sale price. AND, they had none in stock, and gave me a rain check, stapling the 20% off coupon to the rain check.

It was $340 total, with tax, and took a month or more to come in.

No see you walk up with coupon and say I want to order this lathe... they ring it up (you do prepay on special orders) You hand them the coupon. They scan it done deal. Easy!! The x3 and the 8x12 sitting in my shop were puchased this way. Almost as good as the coupon is the free freight to the store

No the 8x12 is much more beefy (50 lbs of metal heavier in a smaller lathe!) than the 9x20 but doesnt have the size. I looked at both as the 8x12 was sitting right by the 9x20 when it came in.

http://www.annisquamgranite.com/lathecomparo.htm and dont worry about the manual change warning on that site. Mine had the new manual too and the machine was same-same. I told that guy that but he has had that up for two years now, freaking people out!

I got mine in 07, like I said he has had that up there for YEARS! No body has had a problem so far. Its just the manual pictures changed, my manual is that way too. Sort of like HF x3 mill - their specs are all messed up in the manual but when you open the box its just like everybody elses x3
With the store order you can refuse it right there if it comes damaged or you decide you dont like it.
