I own a 9 x 20 lathe and my gear lever keeps slipping. I've found the problem and have no idea how to open it to fix the problem. I forgot the name of the part, but it holds the lead screw and has a ball insert fluid cap. It seems to be sort of at times locked and is causing my gear lever to slip. I've removed the end nut that has a set screw thru the top of it, but the part won't come off. It's getting pretty hot when turning parts. Any idea where I can get another or do I need to replace the whole lead screw ? ![]() . |

| Its just called a 'bracket' in the manual! I assume with the oiling point its a plain bearing that has either got some swarf in it or its run 'dry' and the shaft has picked up on the bearing material, sort of confirmed by getting hot in operation. Its appears not to be restrained, so if unbolted from the bed casting it should come off the end of the leadscrew? Two options - ream out and install another bronze bush bearing or if big enough, bore oversize and fit a caged needle roller bearing - but lubrication is a must for whatever is fitted. |

| I've tried to get this thing off and that's a no go. Not unless I'm doing something wrong. Yes I think it's probably shot and needs to be replaced. I don't feel like waiting for another from HF and would like to just replace it. Now if I can get it off, maybe I'll bore it out for the bearing fit. If anyone has experience with getting this thing off, please feel free to chime in. |
