    DeskCNC issues with lathe

Guys I just got my lap top back after having it retrofitted from Vista to XP. Everything works great, but I cant seem to get my software for Deskcnc to recognize a port on the controller. The computer recognizes the port , but the software cant seem to locate the controller for some reason. I tried the trouble shoot they had, and a talked to a few other computer literate friends. I am going to try adn call them tomorrow for direct help.

But I thought I would see if anyone here had any ideas in the mean time.

    Thanks

Verify your port setting inside of deskcnc and verify that you have the second generation controller check box checked if you are using a second generation controller. I had a similar problem and it takes a while to figure out.

I did a few internal Deskcnc changes like they say in the trouble shooting section, changing the port to 0 and other #'s. I also made sure the second gen box was checked. Problem is , it doesnt show any com # in the deskcnc setup box. Its just blank. I dont have any option to pick out a com port. Now on my other lap top it says it recognizes it on com 3 when its starting up, but then it goes right to saying it doesnt detect it in port 2. Which I dont understand. But its a pain thats for sure.

I should have bought a bigger cnc lathe and spent more money, as I am not really happy with this one as it is, and having this problem, just further makes me want to sell it.

    Thanks for the info

Try reinstalling the software. I am trying to remember the steps I took the last time this happened.

Just remember that any software package has its share of problems.

By the way what kind of lathe do you have?

I bought one of their Sherline packages.

I tried reinstalling it several times and still no luck. I know there is probably a simple problem. But with all the other problems I ve had ( all type of error codes it always gave me , it would never shut down and other issues like that ) I need something reliable and dependable. Not something I spend hours trying to get up and running to cut a 15 minute part from.

But thats another story. For now I am just struggling to get this running so I can most likely sell the complete package and get something I can use.

    Thanks

Yes I ve tried all the ports too. The controller has power also. I also replaced the usb / serial cable just to ease my mind on that area also.

    Thanks for the info though.

You have to install the software that comes with the USB to serial adaptor, before you plug in the adaptor. It's required for Windoww to recognize the new serial port.

Guys I finally got everything working. Issues with the USB drivers, the controller and who knows what else, but after a few hours of swearing and making changes its up and running.

I think I am going to list this for sale and buy another setup now.

Thanks for everyones help with this.

I am glad you got it up and running. Those pesky windows drivers will get you everytime.
I wouldn't give up on deskcnc especially since it wasn't the problem. I use it every day without problem. Not only to run my router but I use the cam features of the program to write gcode for My mach3 driven mill.

But you may find the lathe itself is a litle small.
